We need to know why we believe

It amazes me how many people will say they believe in what their parents believe but they can’t even tell you what that is. I have noticed a lot of young people think that what ever their parents believe that must be what they are. I work with someone who is Asian, she was talking about a band that was on her leg with another lady. I asked why they did that. She said it was because of her Religion. I asked what Religion are you, this band is supposed to bring good luck, but otherwise she didn’t know anything else. Personally I wouldn’t wear or put something on if I didn’t understand it or where it came from.

I have noticed in the Christian Faith also that many children think because mom and dad have a relationship with the L-rd so do I, or I believe this because this is what my parents believe, but not because it truly means anything to them. Believers need to understand what they believe and well my parents are doesn’t exactly give a Testimony of who G-d is.

In Hosea 4:6 G-d tells us that His people are destroyed because of a lack of Knowledge, and their refusal to have knowledge. G-d said he would reject the priest because they rejected the Torah. We need to teach our children why we believe the way we do and not just leave it go with this is what I believe and what my parents believe so this is what I am. We are not what our parents are, we are responsible for our own faith, and relationship with G-d. All of the Men G-d called friend had their own friendship with G-d, grant it their parents did too, but the children needed that friendship with G-d and you know there are only 3 people who are called friend of G-d in the Bible.

As a believer it is important to know why we believe how we do, and to share with one and other. We need to be able to give someone who has questions answers which are personal to use. I know I like asking question to find out where a person is coming from, it easy to get to know people.
