Treasure of the Snow

My husband and I have a Netflix account, we have had it since we have been married, and he has had it since before us. I am fairly picky when it comes to movies, and that includes a lot of religious movies too. I picked Treasure of Snow which was made in 1983, by accident I guess would be a good way to put it. I decided to leave it in my queue because the title seemed interesting. Tonight my husband and I finally got to my movie, and we watched it. I have had it sitting waiting to be watched for close to 2 weeks. We have been busy dealing with a lot of things and the movie wasn’t exactly on top of our minds of things to do.
This movie is a foreign film I believe at least it appears to be and it is based on a book. It deals with forgiveness and the consequence of not forgiving and then becoming bitter about what has happened. Lucien one of the main characters in the movie was a bully but it seemed that he was bullied to and it just got to much. So like most bullies he decided to take it out on his friend who was smaller and weaker then he. Lucien was teasing his friend Danny about dropping his cat down the ravine, he didn’t mean to later he said in the movie but it happened. Danny went to go after the cat, and he slipped. Lucien did try to stop his friend but was unsuccessful, so he ended up walking around with the guilt of what had happened to Danny. When Danny fall, Lucien ran home and hide he didn’t tell anyone and by the time he had it was a while that Danny was laying injured in the ravine, so many of the town peoples weren’t happy with Lucien and blamed him.
In the movie he meet a wood carver who taught him more of how to carve wood and he began to heal, and his family accepted him after a while. Lucien had a talent for carving wood. His old friend saw his talent and took him under his wing. His old friend it would be learned later that he had a secret, which he carried around for a long time. It was shared with Lucien.
Danny’s sister grew bitter and ended up getting hurt, which lift her a way to have to forgive Lucien. Lucien at the time was the only one who could help her, and he got her home. The grandma keep Encouraging her to forgive Lucien, and to let G-d deal with him. The grandma in one point of the movie had told her G-d loved Lucien as much as Danny. This surprised my husband and I because many films don’t show the congruences of unforgiveness or bitterness. This movie showed the hurt the young girl went through because of it.
In the Bible we are instructed to forgive people. It was nice to watch a film that lined up with the Bible but wasn’t so in your face about preaching that it turned us off to watching it. It give it message and showed healing in it.
Unforgiveness and bitterness is like a closed curtains, you don’t see things clearly and normally end up hurting others around you. But when you live in Forgiveness and love like G-d has instructed us to it’s like a curtain that is open letting in the light.
