The more we do

I believe it was on Tuesday that we had National Night Out. This is a good time to get to know your neighbors and find out who should be around the area. Grant it living in a apartment building there are always new people coming in and out. People move in and out, sometimes they simply change apartment buildings. My complex is 4 buildings, and we have a rec room, and a party room in the same building. Normally I try to go to our apartment building activities and often I don’t get to eat anything they serve because of the pork products. I was glad to see they had 3 different types of chicken wings, maybe they are starting to understand the different community who live here. We have a lot of Muslim resident, who are very similar as far as dietary restrictions as my hubby and I. As far as I can tell their aren’t many Jewish people here, there are plenty of Christians though.
I got to the party, and the first table I sat at no one wanted to talk. I have social skills but when you say Hi, and try to start a conversation and them look at you stupid, then turn around and talk to their friend in the same language as you, who doesn’t even live here. We know they not interested in getting to know other people. I knew one of the guys at another table, he used to be a missionary and one of the older ladies at his table. I decided to go over and visit with him for a couple of minutes and then ended up talking to the lady for quiet awhile. She is one of those older ladies, who looks at least 40 years younger, I still not sure she telling the truth about being 80, but why would she lie about that.
She was sharing her faith with me, and mentioned being worried that she didn’t do enough good to make G-d happy. We talked for quiet awhile and I asked a few questions.
Paul in the Bible speaks about if you steal then you aught to work with your hands. Working is important for us to do, it helps other believers. Being compassionate is equally important. In the Old Testament G-d gave us cities of refuge for the person who killed his neighbor by accident. He gave a way of escape until restitution could be made. I wonder how their hotel business was, and if they had any laughlin hotels. We shared about our lives, both of us have asthma. She was a sweet lady and I really ended up connecting with her. I wish I had better words of encouragement for her that night that as long as she does as G-d commands and as long as she listen to him, and is guided by Him she has nothing to fear.
I ended up having a chance to share about my grandma, and how G-d had healed her, when there was no hopes. She told me I was a happy person and that G-d has used me, and some other stuff. She saw me as a good woman, not sure how she figured out that but I won’t argue. She said it seem like I had everything in order… I told her the truth that things weren’t exactly the best for me, and what I am dealing with, with my husband mom. I told her it been heard and some of the things I have done to try to help his parents. She encouraged me to keep going the way I am, and not to stop. She told me not to change who I am. I told her I would change as time goes on because as I get older I will learn things and hopefully change for the best.
I was glad to see a couple people their who actually where interested in getting to know their neighbors, even if we live in a apartment complex. I have been here for 2 years this month, my last building I leaved their for close to 10 years and I think we only did one national night out. Honestly I would love to see some churches host the national night out in their neighbor hoods this could be a good out reach to the towns.
