Tradition
Posted by admin on December 8th, 2008 filed in Faith, TorahTraditions can be hard to give up and let go of. I seem to have a easier time of giving up things that I am used to doing it just because it the way it’s always been done. In every religion there are traditions there are beliefs we have that when we find out those beliefs are wrong or maybe not correct it’s hard to change our way of thinking and doing. Part of it is because of our mind sets on certain things. We get used to hearing it this way and always has been this way.
I am one of those people who question why is it this way or that way. I used to celebrate Christmas because I thought it was Yeshua birthday celebration then I found out it’s origins and knew G-d had told us not to worship him as the pagans worship their gods. So the question went through my mind of is celebrating Christmas okay or is this worshipping G-d in a way that breaks his first commandments. I came to the conclusion of Yes it would break that commandment, G-d told us the acceptable way to worship him.
There are tradition even in the Jewish faith I question but haven’t found a answer yet. Maybe I will never have my answer but until I get it I will do what I believe to be right. I believe the Old Testament was not done away with or abolish which means to make it no longer valid. Yeshua fulfilled the law not abolish it, he tells us this in Matthew, so I believe there are some part of the law which we are still under or need to obey. I also believe the 10 commandments is the bare minimum of what is acceptable to G-d, and if we aren’t living that then we aren’t very pleasing. Now do I believe my friends who celebrate Christmas or Easter or other christian holidays are condemned to hell nope not at all I believe only G-d can determine their fate, but I do believe no everyone who claims they are a follower of Yeshua are truly followers or his sheep. Yeshua even tells us that there will be some who say but I did this in your name, it don’t matter what we do in his name. What matters is if we are obeying him, and doing what he has instructed us. Even in the Old Testament G-d promises he will send us someone who we must listen to or be held into account.
It would be like taking a Vegas vacationsand gambling all your money away and not setting a limit. You would have consequences for those actions. There is grace in our Messiah but I do not believe that grace gives us a right to sin and treat our brother poorly and then expect that we do not have to answer for it because Yehsua covered it all. Well If you treat someone poorly doesn’t he say it’s like we done it to him the same if we treat someone good and provide for them.
My husband and I right now are going through a learning process with having dad live with us. I love dad, and I treat him as I would want a in law to treat my dad. I treat him as if he was my own father, and in many ways he became a second father. No he hasn’t replaced my dad, but he been a fatherly type person in my life the last few years. He is 86, and hasn’t been treated kindly lately, it bugs me and many who have treated dad unkindly are those same people who claim to be Christain. I know this sounds cold but if that your Christainity than I want nothing to do with it. Christainity is supposed to be about being their for people, carrying each other burdens, loving our neighbor. Well loving our neighbors is hard to do sometimes but that don’t mean we aught to treat them unkindly. We are to treat them kindly if we know there’s a need and it’s something we can fulfill then we should try. Yes prayer is powerful but sometimes we can do more then just prayer, that why G-d put us all here and told us how to treat one an other.
