Something we never think about
Posted by admin on December 28th, 2008 filed in Faith, Repentance, TorahOne thing I like about my congregation is that we go through the Torah every year. I love it, it seems like every year I learn something new or realize something I never connected before. Right now we are in the life of Joseph, Joseph last week was sold into slavery by his brother, and thrown in Jail.
This week Joseph was brought out of Jail, 2 years after the cup barrier was released from prison, Joseph wasn’t remember for along time, and most people would probably become bitter and angry at the cup barrier. But Joseph never became angry with him at least in the story that you can tell and this week ended up with a cliff hanger, even though we know what happens in the end. At my congregation right now my husband is doing a lot of the commentary which I think is good for him. My hubby has brought up a few things I guess I never considered about Joseph.
He brought up Joseph brothers and Joseph response, to them. Why would Joseph hide his identity from could it be that he had seen what his brother had done to the other village after the rape of their sister. They deceived the entire village and then murdered them. A little extreme to do when it was a couple of people who did the act. His brother where great deceivers they lied to their father for many years about Joseph death, could Joseph have wanted to see if they have changed. His brother didn’t recognized him, even though he recognized them. It was many many years, and Joseph had changed so it reasonable to wonder if maybe his brother change. My husband brought up the interesting fact that Joseph wasn’t getting revenge or being malice toward his brothers, but wanted to see if their heart had change. This makes more sense then mind games or playing a round with them.
It’s not like his brothers came withsd cards which shows what actions we take, that would have gave him more information and quicker then having to test them for a lack of better word.
