Believe what your told

Today I was talking to someone, can’t remember who it was but we where talking about people simply believing what they are told and not really understanding what it really means. If a good teacher, their Rabbi or Pastor tells them something they will believe it and then not really give any thought to it.
One thing I never really thought about until my Rabbi did a sermon on what is the Oil Yeshua was talking about in the lamps. I have always heard it from Christians that the oil is the Holy Spirit, this is something I never really looked at until Rabbi started talking a little different. Rabbi was saying the Oil was the Good deeds that the Torah was talking about. Now that makes sense too. The thing is we do not always read the word of G-d with the understanding they had back in that time period and we try to translate it in ways we understand with our western culture.
We do not exactly understand the culture if we spend no time studying the word of G-d and other sources from that time period. We need to know our history, because it is import. Just like we would want someone in health care jobs to have the education and knowledge of what they need to know, we as believer need to invest more time searching the word of G-d and learning about the History of that time so we can understand things in a deeper way.
This weekend I was asked something by someone, about is G-d appointed times just for the Jews or did Yeshua do away with it. Well my answer to both of those questions where No, because G-d told us we are to celebrate it and when a foreigner was in Israel they were instructed to have them do the same. Yeshua never stopped G-ds appointed time he was there observing them the way his Father instructed His people to do……
I never felt G-d stop his appointed times, but most churches I have went to never taught about that stuff they always focus a lot on just what they called the new testament. We need to take both parts of G-d words, and well honestly I don’t see the bible divided into 2 sections, it’s continuous.
I know from experience it is for some people my self included in this category, have a hard time studying the Word of G-d, it’s not one of our strength. I know I have to allow and make time to do it and sometimes put myself in situations which require me to study. I am someone I find it easier to pray, and seek G-d then to read and study the Word. Now there are people like my husband where it’s kind of the opposite. I wouldn’t say we are unbalanced in our lives we tend to have improved and are working on improving.
It is amazing how many people have beliefs but they do not know why, or what reason they believe what they do. I have heard many times this person or that person says, but seldomly do I hear the Bible says.
